Arizona track and field notched 11 top three finishes Friday and Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays in California.
The meet was one of two the Wildcats participated in, along with the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Taking first-place honors at the Mt. SAC Relays were Tapenisa Havea in women’s discus and Zach Landa in the same event for the men.
Zach Landa’s performance in the men’s elite shot put at the Mt. SAC Relays earned him a personal best throw that ranks third all-time in UA history and second in the NCAA.
But it was Landa’s performance in the men’s elite shot put that earned him a personal best throw that ranks third all-time in UA history and second in the NCAA. Landa hadn’t thrown further than 20m in the event but did it twice on Saturday with throws of 20.15m and 20.64m, a news release said.
Michael Ogbeiwi also took home top honors for the Cats in the men’s hammer throw with a heave of 63.05m.
Second place finishes at the Mt. SAC Relays went to:
– Youssef Koudssi, men’s shot put
– Mackenna Orie, women’s discus
– Zach Extine, men’s elite 110m hurdles (13.50)
– Sam Hala’ufia, men’s elite discus (58.05m)
– Paris Mikinski tied in the women’s elite high jump (1.85m)
– Antonia Sanchez Nunez, women’s elite 400m hurdles (56.81)
Taking home a third place for Arizona was Tyler Michelini in the men’s elite shot put (18.68m).
On Thursday, Day 1 of the meets, Noah Ray recorded a personal best time of 1:50.27 in the men’s invite 800m to finish second in his heat at the Bryan Clay Invitational, which wrapped up Friday while the Mt. SAC Relays ran through Saturday.
Arizona will be back home for the May 3 Desert Heat Classic at Drachman Stadium, where senior student-athletes will also be honored.
