Get ready for some girl power.
The YWCA Southern Arizona has many of Tucson's lady restaurateurs, bartenders, artists and business owners coming together Sunday for its fourth annual Pop! fundraiser.
The Pop! Fun, Food, Fashion event will raise money for the YWCA's Women's Center for Economic Opportunity — a program that helps 2,000 women each year get jobs, succeed and move into leadership positions. Many of the women who participate are Spanish-speakers or immigrants. A number are also survivors of domestic violence.
"More than half of the women we serve live at or below the poverty line," said Marisela Felix the director of marketing and community relations for the YWCA Southern Arizona.
Tickets to the event cost $45 for general admission. If you're a student with a valid ID, you can get in for $25.
Admission gets you food tastings from eight local restaurants owned by women. You can buy drink tickets, and women bartenders from Che's Lounge, the Surly Wench, La Cocina and Saint Charles Tavern will serve signature cocktails created for Pop!
The evening will include a silent auction with some serious prizes — a Sonoita wine tasting tour; season tickets for FC Tucson's men's and women's matches; and a four-course meal, plus cocktails for four at Elvira's Restaurant downtown.
The event features a bazaar for women artists and small-business owners to set up shop, a fashion show by Buffalo Exchange and a live auction for a painting that artist Sasha Lewis will work on throughout the night.
The Performing Arts Crew Dance Team from Sahuarita's Walden Grove High School will do a performance with dancers dressed as Rosie the Riveter.
The Performing Arts Crew recently took first place in Arizona for the third time in a row.
"It's a night where we celebrate all the amazing things women are doing in the community around food, fashion, entertainment and art," Felix said. "It's a girls' night out."
