Joel Trupiano, holding bell, and nominator Hilary Van Alsburg, left of Joel, with the staff of Children’s Museum Tucson.

What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Last week’s recipient: Joel Trupiano and members of the 501st Legion.

Nominated by: Hilary Van Alsburg.

Why: The 501st Legion is a group of volunteers who dress up in full “Star Wars” gear and attend events in the Tucson area. They let children pose with them and take photos and brighten their lives. They donate a large amount of time to attend children’s events in the community. They recently attended events at Children’s Museum Tucson, including a Make-A-Wish event for a young child. “These men and women gave many hours and hours of their time,” Van Alsburg wrote in her nomination letter.
