Pima Animal Care Center has leased space on Tucson's east side, hoping it will encourage more pet adoptions.
The space at 7255 E. Broadway, at Kolb Road, leased from Larsen Baker, was made possible with $1 million in funding from Friends of PACC.
After renovations, it will open with between 35 and 50 dogs.
Pima Animal Care Center is opening a new shelter on Tucson's east side. It hopes the new location at East Broadway and Kolb Road will boost pet adoptions in the area.
The existing shelter at 4000 N. Silverbell Road was built to house about 300 dogs, but the number is usually closer to 600.
“Since early in the year, we’ve been trying a variety of new approaches to curb the rising census,” said PACC Director Steve Kozachik. “Much of the issue lies out in the community with spaying, neutering, properly confining pets, and microchipping. We’re hopeful that by taking our pups and cats closer to the eastside families, we’ll be able to increase our adoption rate with that group, and — with that — relieve the stress that exists at the main PACC shelter.”
About 65 percent of adopted animals go to homes near the Silverbell facility, with few adopters from the east side, adoption data show.

• Gadget Geeks Pro LLC, dba Total Wireless, leased 1,000 square feet at Manzanita Plaza, 2940 W. Valencia Road. The landlord, Larsen Baker, was represented by its broker, Isaac Figueroa and Tanya Tucker, with Citywide Commercial, represented the tenant.
• Rallypoint Elevator Services leased 950 square feet of industrial space at 3959 E. Speedway from Central Point Tucson LLC. Molly Mary Gilbert, with Picor, represented the landlord.
