Mostly no-fear Halloween fun

Oro Valley wants to take your Halloween to the next level.ย 

With zombie hunting, that is.ย 

A zombie shoot at the Oro Valley Archery Range is one of five spooky events the town has planned for the month of October.ย 

If you'd rather not antagonize zombies, no worries. The town also hasย  haunted hayrides, pumpkin decorating and trick-or-treating. For more information, go here.ย 

Haunted Hayrides

What: This haunted hayride will give you a glimpse of spooky local folklore. Note it may be too scary for littles.ย 

When:ย Fridays, Oct. 5, 12 and 19, 7-10 p.m.ย 

Where: Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 N. Oracle Road

Cost: Free, but $5 donation encouraged for adults

Monster Mash and 5K and festival

What: Do the mash! This monstrous event combines a carnival and race for a scary fun evening. If you're not into running, check out the scary movie scavenger hunt, games and pumpkin decorating. Plus, hop aboard the haunted hayride or sample food truck fare.ย 

If you do plan to run, you can register as late as 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5. The race will have Halloween-themed activities. Example: Down witch's brew (root beer) and scramble over hay bales. See the full schedule and register here.ย Kids can also participate in a free Monster Dash.ย 

When: Friday, Oct. 5, 5:30-9 p.m. The run for kids begins at 5:30 p.m. The grown-up race starts at 6 p.m.ย 

Where: Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 N. Oracle Road

Cost: The 5K costs $35 to register. Festival is free but bring cash for ticketed activities.ย 

Zombie Shoot

What: Those pesky zombies won't stand a chance. Bring your own bows and arrows to shoot pumpkins, zombie targets and more. Kids need to be at least 8.ย 

When: Saturday, Oct. 20, 8-11 a.m.ย 

Where: Oro Valley Archery Range at Naranja Park, 810 W. Naranja Drive

Cost:ย Free

Doggie Dash 'N Dawdle

What: Dress up your pooch for a 1- or 2-mile race. You can walk or run together. There will also be a dog costume contest. If you need some ideas, we have you covered.

When: Saturday, Oct. 20, 5-8 p.m.ย 

Where:ย Caรฑada del Oroย Riverfront Park, 551 W. Lambert Laneย 

Cost: The doggie festival is free. The race is $10 if you register by Oct. 12 and $15 if you register on race day. Do that here.ย 

Halloween Spooktacular

What: All things Halloween in one place. Trick-or-treating, costumes, games, music. Bring your kiddos to this family-friendly event.ย 

When: Friday, Oct. 26, 5-8 p.m.ย 

Where: Oro Valley Community Center, 10555 N. Laย Caรฑada Drive

Cost: Free (bring money if you want to buy from food trucks)
