In 1960, the Tucson Citizen featured photos of the home of Ralph de Rose. The home reflected the influence of the two years the family lived in Japan. The home also had unobstructed views of mountains on all four sides.

Taking their pattern from that of Shoji panels, the garden gate and front door screen show a subtle oriental influence. The trellis, as well, hints of Japanese decor inside the house.

Maj. and Mrs. De Rose designed the fan pattern for the patio to make best use of the available space and to carry out the Far Eastern theme on their home. In the evening the city lights twinkle in the distance.

Pale walls and a beamed ceiling provide a neutral background for bright orange cushions (foreground) and the richly embroidered wall hanging. A red lacquered torii (shrine gate) replica rests on top of the brick divider.

A Japanese tea kettle of lightweight alloy rests on the burner of an island stove. The stove is two inches shorter that standard height, and the cabinet shelves are all within east reach of Mrs. de Rose.

The spacious bedroom has a built-in chest of drawers, bureau and bookcase and two double beds. Mrs. de Rose's zori (sandals), at the foot of the bed, are red. The eight Chinese immortals are depicted on the wastebasket.
