Hamburglar hits in Sierra Vista

Sierra Vista police released this image Monday hoping it would lead to an arrest in the Monday morning burglaries of three fast-food restaurants. A man used drive thru windows to get into three restaurants then stole money from their cash registers, police say.

The Sierra Vista Police Department has arrested a suspect in the case of aΒ hamburglar who carried out a string of burglaries at three fast-food joints on the same street Monday.

August R. Atencio, 24, turned himself in Wednesday, two days after police called on the public’s help to search for him, according to a news release from Sierra Vista Police.

The first burglary took place about 12:30 a.m. Monday at a Carl’s Jr. on Fry Boulevard, followed by the second burglary at approximately 2 a.m. at the McDonald’s there, and the third at around 2:40 a.m. at the Wendy’s, police said.

In each of the burglaries, Atencio followed the same patternΒ β€” getting into the restaurants through the drive-thru window and stealing money from the cash registers, Sierra Vista police said.

Atencio is accused of stealing a total of $2,200 from the eateries.

He was arrested on suspicion of three counts of burglary and is being held at the Cochise County Jail with no bond.
