A 12-year-old boy Tucson police say has been linked to other "violent felonies" was shot and killed Saturday night in a confrontation with two armed men at an eastside gas station.

One of two armed men in the gunfight with the boy also was killed.

About 10:15 p.m., the unidentified boy confronted two men at a convenience store at East 22nd St. and South Pantano Road while carrying a gun, Tucson police said in a news release.

During a confrontation, the boy fired at the men, striking Dennis James Sherwood Sr., 54, the release said.

The men fired back.

The boy was dead by the time police arrived. Sherwood died later at the hospital, the release said.

The second man was not wounded.

Police say investigators later determined the boy "was a person of interest in other violent felonies." No details have been provided.

The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line.
