Steve Reff, center with bell; Amalia Walther, second from left.

What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Last week’s recipient: Steve Reff.

Nominated by: Amalia Walther.

Why: For helping a neighbor who had been sick and had recently lost her husband. Walther said Reff took the woman’s garbage cans to the street and returned them, took care of her yard and placed her newspaper on her doorstep. He also maintains the landscaping along a stretch of road in the neighborhood. “Any kindness Steve shows is selfless,” Walther wrote in her nomination letter. “He just naturally does for others constantly.”
