The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating whether a 911 call that led the shooting of an armed man early Friday by deputies was the result of "swatting," a false 911 report that prompts a police response.
The shooting happened about 5:40 a.m. when deputies went to a house in the 1000 block of East Fenley Drive, near South Nogales Highway south of the airport, after a report that a woman had been shot, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
The unidentified man was shot when deputies went into the house and found him holding a handgun, the release said.
The man was taken to the hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.
Later, deputies learned the man was the only person in the house, the release said.
Two deputies were involved in the shooting. No one else was injured.
No further details were immediately released.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, a multi-agency group that investigates local officer-involved shootings, was activated.
