Two people were killed Sunday night in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Tucson, authorities say.

The wreck happened about 8:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-10 near the Speedway exit, the state Department of Public Safety said.

Details are limited, but it started with a minor collision that left a vehicle partially blocking the left lane, the DPS said in a news release.

A driver stopped on the median shoulder to help. That parked vehicle was rear-ended by a commercial vehicle that had traveled into the emergency lane, the release said.

The driver was outside the vehicle at the time of the crash, but two people inside were killed.

The identities of the two people killed in the wreck had not been released Monday.

The crash closed a portion of I-10 for several hours.
