Last week’s recipient: Alan Schmidt, principal of Sentinel Peak Alternative High School.

Why: For going above and beyond in connecting with and helping students. Schmidt has passion, integrity, commitment and energy toward his profession, the nominators wrote in their letter. β€œHe is a champion for the youth that everyone has given up on,” they wrote. His guidance has helped lift students out of despair and dysfunction, they wrote. He provides mentorship and leadership to his staff and never turns down the opportunity to help someone in need.
