Border agents at the Interstate 19 checkpoint south of Tucson say they found methamphetamine hidden inside packages of meat earlier this month.

On Nov. 14, agents working the primary inspection lanes referred a Nissan Versa, with Sonora, Mexico license plates, for further inspection after an X-ray scan showed anomalies in the trunk, the agency said in a news release.

Agents say they found four packages of methamphetamine, weighing a total of about 20 pounds, concealed in the meat.

The driver, an unidentified 32-year-old Mexican man, was arrested and faces criminal prosecution, the release said.
