A Pima County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested on suspicion of aggravated drunken driving and criminal damage Monday night after crashing into a Tucson Police Department vehicle with his wife and child in the vehicle, court records show.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. when Sergio Reynaldo Lee Urias, 34, tried to make a U-turn while on his cellphone, according to an interim complaint filed in Pima County Justice Court.

During the maneuver, Urias struck a parked TPD Community Service vehicle, records show.

The TPD employee called 911 to report the collision, which happened outside her home, the complaint says. Neither the court nor police would disclose the location of the crash.

Deputies said Urias admitted to drinking “a little bit” before getting behind the wheel of a pickup truck with his wife and the 6-year-old.

He refused to take field sobriety tests or give a preliminary breath sample, records show.

Urias was released to pre-trial services at his initial court appearance Tuesday morning.

Urias, who has been with the department six years, was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
