A 35-year-old man pushing a disabled car was killed late Friday night when he was struck by a speeding vehicle, Tucson police said.
About 11:45 p.m., Adrian Avalos was standing in the open driver's side door of a 2006 BMW 325 he was driving, pushing the BMW east on West Speedway near North Main Avenue along with two passengers and a Good Samaritan, Tucson police said in a news release.
The driver of a black 2012 Chrysler 200 then swerved into the lane, "sideswiping" the BMW. The crash killed Avalos and left the three others with minor injuries, the release said.
The unidentified driver of the Chrysler, an unidentified 72-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
"An officer from the DUI Unit responded to the hospital and determined that the 72-year-old driver of the Chrysler was impaired at the time of the crash," the release said/ "His exact level of impairment and speed remain under investigation as he continues to receive medical treatment."
