Four people were injured in a DUI-related crash early Thursday morning when Tucson police say the driver of a 2023 BMW ran a red light β€œat near triple-digit speeds” and smashed into a car, ripping it in half.

All four people in the wreck survived, Tucson police said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened about 1 a.m. when the 27-year-old driver of the BMW ran a red light on East Grant Road at North First Avenue.

The BMW was going nearly 100 mph when it smashed into a green Subaru headed north on First Avenue, the release said.

The impact sheered the Subaru in half and the BMW caught fire.

The BMW driver, who police say was impaired, a 26-year-old passenger and two women in the Subaru were taken to the hospital with injures police said in the release β€œwere no longer considered to be life-threatening as a result of the care received at the hospital.”

A third vehicle was damaged by the crash debris.

The unidentified driver is expected to be booked into the Pima County jail on β€œnumerous felony charges,” after he is released from the hospital, the release said.
