Crime scene tape

Two people were killed and two have been detained in what Tucson police say was a robbery "gone wrong" in midtown Thursday night.

Daniel Alfredo Cortez-Arguelles, 26, and Vicente Apodaca, 41, were pronounced dead at the scene about 11:30 p.m. after officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of North Tyndall Avenue, the Tucson Police Department said Friday in a news release.

Police say that Cortez-Arguelles and Apodaca attempted to rob two men at gunpoint in the complex's parking lot near their vehicles. The two men drew pistols of their own and shot both Cortez-Arguelles and Apodaca, then immediately called 911.

The investigation is ongoing; however, no charges have been filed after officials consulted the Pima County Attorney's Office, the release says.

Detectives will present the case to the attorney's office again once the investigation is complete, officials said.Β
