A 37-year-old Tucson man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for smashing into a police car during a chase, authorities say.
Guadalupe Fermin Ramirez, who pleaded guilty to assault on a federal officer on May 9, was sentenced last week to 57 months in prison and three years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge John C. Hinderaker, said a news release from the U.S. Attorneyโs Office in Arizona.
The incident occurred in November 2023, when Pascua Yaqui police responded to a stolen vehicle call.
In a pursuit, Ramirez smashed into the driverโs side of a police car while going about 45 mph. The officer avoided being injured by removing his seatbelt and moving to the center of the squad car just before the collision, the release said.
The chase continued in which Ramirez ran several stops signs and caused two vehicles to crash, the release said.
