Formal charges, including attempted first degree murder and domestic violence, have been issued against a Tucson man accused of shooting a deputy last week during a foot chase, authorities say.

Gabriel Angel Altamirano, 39, who was on the lam for days before his arrest about 2:30 a.m. Sunday near West Irvington Road and South Midvale Park. His charges also include domestic violence,Β two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of first-degree burglary, authorities say.

The Aug. 13 chain of events that led to the shooting of a deputy started when Altmirano was wanted in connection with a domestic violence incidentΒ near West Valencia Road and South Camino de Oeste.

He left before deputies arrived. But a deputy spotted him later and tried to stop Altamirano, who fled then crashed. A foot chase followed in which a deputy was shot in the leg.
