A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder Tuesday following the August 21 shooting death of a Tucson man, police said.

Tucson police had been searching for Crist Lee Defrenchi since the shooting death earlier this month of 36-year-old Santiago Jimenez Herrera.

The two men were known to each other and have had previous confrontations, police said. Those confrontations came to a head about 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 21 when dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the desert area northwest of the 7400 block of South Wilmot Road, Tucson police said.

Officers found Herrera shot and wounded and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An arrest warrant was later issued for Defrenchi.

On Tuesday, police apprehended Defrenchi near East Old Vail and South Rita roads.

Defrenchi was booked into the Pima County jail on a warrant for first-degree murder as well as an unrelated felony warrant. He is currently being held without bond, police said.
