A man who was attacked at bus stop earlier this month has died and a 20-year-old man arrested in the case now faces first-degree murder charges, Tucson police say.

Robert Montoya, 55, was attacked just after 4:30 a.m. June 1, near a bus stop on East 22nd Street near South Country Club Road, police said Tuesday in a news release.

The attack appears to have been random, the release said.

Julian Michael Pena was arrested immediately after the assault by officers who found him running across Reid Park, the release said.

Montoya was hospitalized with severe injuries. He died June 14, the release said.

Pena was jailed on charges stemming from the attack. The charges have been amended to suspicion of first-degree murder, the release said.
