A man has died days after being struck by a car as he crossed a street on the city's north side, Tucson police say.
Rafael Lazcano, 55, was struck about 11 p.m. June 12 as he and another person were crossing East Fort Lowell Road at North Alvernon Way, Tucson police said Tuesday in a news release.
Lazcano was in a marked crosswalk, but was walking against the light, the release said.
He was struck by a 2017 Nissan Rogue that was headed east on Fort Lowell. The light was green for the vehicle at the time of the crash, the release said.
Lazcano was taken to the hospital. Police said they learned Tuesday that he had died, the release said. The person he was walking with left before police arrived.
The unidentified driver of the Nissan was determined not to be impaired but she was driving on a suspended/revoked license, the release said.
The crash investigation continues.
The wreck marks the 18th fatal pedestrian crash in the city this year. During the same time in 2023 there were 12 pedestrian fatalities in Tucson, the release said.
