STK emergency

A 41-yer-old man was killed in a crash Tuesday morning on the city's south side, Tucson police say.

Jesse M. Ortiz was driving a 1998 Chevrolet GMT400 pickup truck south on South Midvale Park Road about 9 a.m. when he started to make a left turn at West Argyle Avenue and was struck by a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, police said Thursday in a news release.

Ortiz died at the crash scene.

The unidentified 19-year-old driver of the Silverado was speeding and he was later determined by police to have been impaired at the time of the wreck, the release said. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives are conducting further investigation into the impairment level of the Silverado driver as well as the pickup truck's speed. Their findings will be presented to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution, the release said.
