William Chesmore

A Sierra Vista man wanted on local and federal warrants was arrested by authorities Sunday.

William Chesmore, 34, was arrested by Sierra Vista police at a closed hotel on North Garden Avenue, said Corporal Tim Wachtel, a police department spokesman.

Chesmore was wanted in connection with a March 3 felony drug incident and also had a Jan. 30 outstanding warrant with the U.S. Marshals service for a probation violation, Wachtel said.

Police learned of Chesmore's whereabouts shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, and with the assistance of the Cochise County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshals, arrested him at the Sun Canyon Inn at about 9:30 p.m.

At the time of his arrest, Chesmore had heroin in his investigation and police learned that he also had a handgun earlier that day.

Chesmore was booked into the Cochise County jail on charges of a probation violation, possession of a dangerous drug for sale, possession of a narcotic and prohibited possession of a firearm, Wachtel said.

Police also arrested 31-year-old Sierra Vista woman Marybeth Ray in connection with the investigation, booking her into jail on charges of false reporting to law enforcement.
