- What:
- Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”
- Last week’s recipient:
- Tiny Read.
- Nominated by:
- Bill Salisbury.
- Why:
- For founding and serving as program coordinator of the Sunrise Neighborhood Assistance Program, which provides services to neighbors in the Sunrise/Fairfield communities on the northeast side. Read coordinates volunteers who provide transportation, caregiver relief, household assistance and repairs, and well-being advice to as many as 80 people at a time. All of the services are free, allowing many seniors to live independently. Read hosts social gatherings and annual health and wellness fairs. “SNAP is Tiny Read’s brainchild, which has come of age under her wise supervision and compassionate support,” Salisbury wrote in his nomination letter.
