What: Benβs Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is βbelled.β
Last weekβs recipient: Sheila Bowden.
Nominated by: Sandy Chan.
Why: For dedicating her time to making the pond at Fort Lowell Park a protected environment for wildlife and for the domesticated ducks and turtles abandoned there. Bowden organizes work days at the pond to plant trees and shrubs, repair fencing and clean the area, Chan wrote in her nomination letter. When sheβs not improving the pond, Bowden picks up trash around the park in the early morning hours, Chan wrote. βHer example has inspired many of the regular walkers at the park to pick up trash,β Chan wrote.
