Joe Farmer and Nicole Rullo, at center holding bell, with Rincon/University High School swim team members.

What: Benโ€™s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week someone who makes Tucson better is โ€œbelled.โ€

Last weekโ€™s recipients: Joe Farmer and Nicole Rullo, swim coaches at Rincon/University High School.

Nominated by: Rincon/University High swim teams.

Why: For being inspirational coaches. They teach with kindness, respect and enthusiasm. โ€œThe show us by example that, when you treat people fairly and with enthusiasm, kindness, inclusiveness and respect, we can achieve great things,โ€ said the teamโ€™s nomination letter. The coaches work with and cheer on all team members, whether they are beginners or state champions. โ€œThey teach us that hard work and high expectations can exist without sacrificing kindness and good sportsmanship.โ€ The teamโ€™s letters said the coachesโ€™ classrooms are places where students like to gather during lunch and after school because they are โ€œhappy and welcomingโ€ places.
