Former San Jose State tight end Sam Olson runs during a game against USC in 2023.

Another former San Jose State player is joining former Spartans head coach Brent Brennan and his staff at Arizona.

Tight end Sam Olson announced his commitment to the Wildcats Monday morning. The fifth-year Olson committed to the UA over Cal, and he's reuniting with longtime SJSU tight ends coach Matt Adkins, who is also the passing game coordinator for Arizona.

Olson, a 6-3, 242-pound tight end from Visalia, California, joined San Jose State in 2020 and had 45 receptions for 594 yards and six touchdowns in his four years with the Spartans. Olson had the fourth-most receiving yards (310) for SJSU last season.

Olson will become a part of Arizona's scholarship tight end group that also includes redshirt senior Roberto Miranda, junior Keyan Burnett, redshirt sophomore Tyler Powell, redshirt freshman Dorian Thomas and incoming freshman Dylan Tapley. Two-tight end packages, or 12 personnel, was an essential component to San Jose State's offense and it's becoming a staple in Arizona's offense under Brennan this spring.

Olson is one of six ex-Spartans to transfer to Arizona since Brennan was hired, joining All-Mountain West defensive end Tre Smith, running back Quali Conley, offensive lineman Ryan Stewart, defensive back James Smith and quarterback Anthony Garcia, who committed on Sunday.

Arizona's spring game is on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Arizona Stadium, which will also be televised on Pac-12 Network.
