The Pima County School Superintendentβs Office is hosting a teacher town hall for educators to discuss the issues they face in the classroom with state legislators and candidates.
K-12 teachers in Pima County who teach in district schools are invited to share their experiences on March 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at 200 N. Stone Ave.

CDO takes top honors
in academic decathlon
The Academic Decathlon team from Canyon del Oro High School has won its 17th consecutive regional tournament.
Piper Gray, a CDO senior, earned the highest score at an official contest in the 36-year history of the Arizona Academic Decathlon and the second-highest score in the nation this year.
In the Academic Decathlon, students match their intellects with students from other schools. They compete in 10 categories, including written tests in art, economics, literature, math, music, science and social science.
Canyon del Oro is competing at the state championship on March 9 and 10 in Glendale in an attempt to earn its fifth-consecutive state title.
Tucson students square off for Science Bowl spot
Teams of students from Tanque Verde High School and Basis Tucson North are participating in an upcoming competition to determine who will represent Arizona in the high school finals of the National Science Bowl.
The National Science Bowl is put on by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science. It is designed to encourage youth to pursue careers in science and math.
The winning team members from the regional competition will receive all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Science Bowl from April 26 to April 30.
Grand Canyon University honors Quail Run principal
Andrea Divijak, Quail Run Elementary Schoolβs principal, is Grand Canyon Universityβs STEM principal for January 2018.
Grand Canyon recognizes principals who have demonstrated creativity and vision in implementing or supporting STEM-related pathways and programs at their schools.
Divijak has served as principal of Quail Run, in the Marana Unified School District, since 2015.
Arizona Bowl donates $50K to district foundations
The Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl has donated $50,000 to support local teachers from the Tucson Unified School District and Amphitheater Public Schools through their respective foundations.
βThe priority of the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl is to give back to our community through a college football bowl game,β said Alan Young, executive director of NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.
βWe see the many needs that teachers have and want the success of our game to translate into support and success for teachers.β
