Ben's Bells: Man recognized for keeping Ft. Lowell trails, paths clean

What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Last week’s recipient: Bob Lindrud.

Nominated by: John Shepard.

Why: For the past four years, Lindrud has devoted nearly every day to cleaning up and beautifying the Fort Lowell neighborhood’s trails and paths. Lindrud volunteers his time to maintain the trails along Fort Lowell Road between North Craycroft and Swan roads. He trims and hauls away vegetation, Shepard wrote in his nomination letter.

“His tireless efforts to keep the Alamo Wash (between Glenn and Fort Lowell) clean have resulted in the wash’s transformation from a place to dump things to a beautiful tree-lined area that functions as a sanctuary for the flora and fauna indigenous to the area.

“He primarily works alone, but he organizes two community cleanups each year. He is a great example of a volunteer who expects nothing in return for his efforts other than the satisfaction he derives from his efforts,” Shepard wrote.
