Marcie, left, and Danny Young, right, helped Jacalyn Martinez, center, clean up her property after her husband died.

What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Last week’s recipients: Danny and Marcie Young.

Nominated by: Jacalyn Martinez.

Why: For helping a neighbor clean up her property after her husband died. The Youngs and Martinez were neighbors for years. In July 2016, Martinez’s husband passed away. Within a few weeks, the Youngs offered to clean up her property, which included many items brought in by Martinez’s husband over 30 years of living there. “Thirty years of bringing everything home for ‘use later’ consumed our entire acre,” Martinez wrote in her nomination letter. Martinez described the effort as a huge task. The Youngs spent about seven weeks helping to clean up and take things to the dump.
