A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery after Tucson police say he attacked a woman last week after trying to force his way into her midtown house.
About 2:35 p.m. Feb. 26, police were called to a house near North Swan Road and East Pima Street by a woman who said a man was trying to break into her house, Tucson police said Tuesday in a news release.
The unidentified woman in her 60s ran out the back door as the man entered the house. He then attacked her in her yard, the release said.
The woman's injuries were not life-threatening, police say.
He attacker ran off with her purse and cellphone, as officers were arriving.
Patrol officers, some using police dogs, searched the area and were able to locate surveillance video from homes in the vicinity that showed the attacker fleeing the area, police said.
Joe Gasca Fernandez, 38, was eventually found hiding blocks away. He was booked into jail and was being held without bond, the release said.
