A motorcyclist seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash near Park Place mall died Wednesday night at Banner-University Medical Center Tucson.

The man was identified as Robert Adair, 37, saidΒ Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.

On Tuesday at about 7:30 p.m., officers and Tucson Fire Department paramedics responded to the crash involving a motorcycle and car in the 5800 block of East Broadway, near Chantilly Drive.

The motorcyclist, who was driving a 1997 Harley Davidson, was taken to the hospital. He was not wearing a helmet, Bay said.

Two adults in a 1994 Buick Century sedan were not injured.

Traffic detectives, who interviewed witnesses, determined that the driver of the sedan was eastbound on Broadway in the left turn cut out of the raised median. The driver began to make a left turn into a parking lot on the north side of the road when he was struck by the motorcyclist who was westbound on Broadway, Bay said.

Witnesses said the motorcyclist was traveling at a high-rate of speed and weaving through lanes of traffic prior to the crash, said Bay.Β

Detectives believe the motorcyclist's speed and alcohol impairment were contributing factors in the crash.

The investigation is continuing. No citations have been issued.

Since January, there have been 20 fatalities in the city, compared to 22 at this time last year, according to police data.
