A Marana police officer has been placed on paid leave while the department probes a claim he was involved in pickup truck break-in at a bar, officials say.

The alleged incident took place about 2 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Whiskey Roads, 2290 West Ina Road in Marana, according to a news release Monday from the department.

Preliminary information shows someone claimed Officer Daniel Bonn, while off-duty, broke into his pickup truck that was parked outside the bar, said Capt. Tim Brunenkant, of the Marana Police Department.

The individual claimed damage to the truck and its belongings, Brunenkant said.

Bonn, who has been with the department for five years, has not been charged with a crime.

Claims a second officer was involved in the incident are incorrect, the news release said.

Deputies with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department responded to the bar to take over the criminal investigation.

The Marana Police Department is conducting a separate internal investigation to ensure department policies were followed, the release said.
