Tucson police detectives have arrested a man in connection with a homicide that occurred near the University of Arizona campus on April 6.

Daniel Wolfley, 40, was arrested April 10 in the stabbing death of 33-year-old Gary Lavier in an alley near the campus. Lavier and his sister were allegedly with Wolfley when a fight started, leaving Lavier with several stab wounds, Tucson police said in a news release.

Officers found the siblings shortly after 1 a.m. on April 6 after callers said a wounded man was in the road near East Eighth Street and North Park Avenue.

Lavier later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, the department said. His sister, who was not identified by police, had a head injury but police said it was not life-threatening.

Detectives learned on the morning of the homicide a fire was started in a wash near the incident and items were found burned. The fire also destroyed a camp area where people were residing.

The department received information that Wolfley had spoken with friends about his involvement in both incidents, a news release said. Officers located him in the downtown area and took him into custody.

He's been booked into the Pima County Jail on charges of second-degree murder, arson of an occupied structure and tampering with physical evidence.
