A teen was who struck and injured a Border Patrol agent as he sped through a checkpoint west of Tucson has been sentenced to six years in prison, authorities say.

On Feb.13 the teen was stopped by Tohono O’odham police for speeding and having a cracked windshield. He fled as the officer approached the vehicle, prompting a two-mile chase before police ended the pursuit, the Pima County Attorney's Office said in a news release.

The teen continued east on Arizona 86 toward Tucson, striking the agent at the checkpoint, crashing near West Mission Road and West Ajo Way then fled on foot, the release said.

The agent was flown by helicopter to a Tucson hospital for treatment of extensive injuries.

The unidentified teen was apprehended March 28. In July, the teen pled guilty to criminal charges that include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He was sentenced Aug. 5 in Pima County Superior Court, the release said.
