New Arizona women’s basketball coach Becky Burke continues to add pieces to her roster-building project.
The latest transfer addition is Memphis wing Tanyuel Welch, as reported Wednesday by On3’s Talia Goodman.
Memphis guard Tanyuel Welch, left, handles the ball against South Carolina guard Te-Hina Paopao during the Hoops for St. Jude Tip Off Classic on Oct. 15, 2024, in Memphis, Tenn.
Welch spent her first three seasons at Memphis. The 5-foot-10 Indianapolis product averaged 10.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals for the Tigers this past season.
Welch redshirted the previous season after suffering a torn ACL. She should have two years of eligibility at Arizona.
Welch is the third transfer to commit to play for Burke, who was named Arizona’s head coach on April 9. The others are guards Noelani Cornfield (Buffalo) and Mickayla Perdue (Cleveland State).
Welch shot better on 3-point field goals (45.3%) than 2-pointers (38.3%) last season. She made 72.1% of her foul shots, up from 51.6% as a freshman.
