Even Stevens is a casual gourmet sandwich joint based out of Salt Lake City.

Downtown is sorely in need of sandwiches. And Even Stevens has answered the call!

The Utah-based chain is about to open its first Tucson store inside the The Julian Drew building at 178 and 180 E. Broadway. The grand opening is set for 8 a.m. May 17th, with a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m., said PR rep Mikaela Shafer.

But if you want to get the food for free, sign up for one of these parties on Monday, May 15

— Neighborhood breakfast: The restaurant will have items from its breakfast menu, which includes plates of brioche French toast and egg sandwiches on a Hawaiian bun. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sign up here, spaces are limited.

— Social night: Get some free sandwiches, take pictures in the slow-motion photo booths and listen to music during this evening shindig. This one goes from 6 to 8 p.m. Sign up here!

Even Stevens is expected to open May 17 on the ground floor of the historic Julian Drew building at East Broadway and South Fifth Avenue.

Even Stevens specializes in gourmet casual sandwiches like capreses, Reubens and vegetarian jackfruit delights. The Tucson location will feature a "vintage eclectic" vibe with old timey features like a baroque wallpaper and antique steamer trunk. There will also be a custom mural by Tucson artist Joe Pagac, depicting the original Studebaker car indoor showroom that was once inside the Julian Drew building.

Even Stevens also has a charitable mission: For each sandwich sold, the company donates the cost of the ingredients to local nonprofits in the area. Here, they're helping out the Community Food Bank, the Tucson Neighborhood Food Pantry, Interfaith Community Services and St. Vincent De Paul.
