A nonprofit that collects books for law enforcement to give to traumatized children has moved out of its founder’s living room and leased office space.

Southern Arizona Book Heroes leased 618 square feet at 7290 E. Broadway, near Kolb Road, from Swan Court LLC.

Molly Mary Gilbert and Ryan McGregor, with Picor, handled the lease.

Book Heroes collects children’s books and stuffed animals for police officers and first responders to have in their vehicles to give a child in a case of a traumatic arrest or encounter.

Southern Arizona Book Heroes has leased office space after operating out of the founder’s home for 20 years.

It was founded by Tucsonan Jennifer Turner-Jones, a victim of sexual assault who found solace in stories she read once she was removed from the abuser’s custody.

She started the nonprofit 20 years ago and is now able to have a dedicated office, “instead of my couch,” she said.

The small space will be for donations to be sorted and then shipped to different law enforcement partners around Tucson.

Appointments to drop off books or plushies can be made by calling 520-475-9662 or visiting soazbookheroes.org for more information. A list of drop-off locations throughout the Tucson area is also listed on the website.
