Much has been and will be written following the horrific tragedy in Sandy Hook, Conn. Referring to that massacre, Ted Anthony of the Associated Press wrote that there will be "scores of grandparents who will look across generations and see less that they would have ... hundreds of accomplishments that will go unaccomplished. Inventions that will not be invented. Good deeds not committed. Ideas not expressed. Romances that will never happen." All tragically true.

But can we not say the same about the 50 million plus who have lost their lives to legalized abortion in this, the land which professes its allegiance to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?" Are not their deaths also horrific? Do we not mourn for their lost accomplishment, uninvented inventions, good deeds not done? And if we do not, then why not?

Please know this line of thought is not in any way meant to trivialize nor diminish the heinousness of the recent violence committed against innocent souls. The magnitude of this massacre and its aftermath are nearly unfathomable.

But, maybe, just maybe, is this indifference to life the result of our nation's Supreme Court-approved stance that trivialized and diminished life in its very earliest and most innocent form, that of a child in the womb?

Food for thought, as we attempt as a people to cope with yet another assault on innocent life.
